East Cleveland Classic

The second round of the British National Series, The East Cleveland Classic took place on Sunday 14th April. A demonstration of teamwork, strength and unity has left us proud of what we achieved and excited for the journey ahead.

The team approached the start line early on Sunday morning with determination. The first lap saw a fairly high pace and very few attacks, with the peloton significantly thinning out. The riders were attentive, positioning well and covering moves; which was key over the first ascent of Saltburn Bank, where Tiff was able to follow Cat Ferguson’s stinging attack. The race quickly came back together as the climb levelled out, and we headed towards Guisborough for the first of two sprints.

Lucy and Tammy helped maintain a high pace and position Charlotte for the first sprint. This was a great opportunity to practice a sprint lead-out, with Charlotte crossing the line 2nd. On the second sprint on lap 3, the team adopted the same approach, with Charlotte crossing the line 3rd and finishing 3rd overall in the Fenwick’s sponsored competition.

Despite the absence of a decisive breakaway, the team’s relentless efforts kept their rivals on their toes, forcing them to respond to every move. Tammy initiated a move with one other rider, with Robyn and Ruth also attacking and keeping pressure on the competition. Lucy and Frankie both worked incredibly hard to keep the team positioned well whilst also following and initiating attacks.

As the race headed back into Saltburn-on-Sea for the final time, Robyn fought hard to position Tiff and Morven whilst also bringing back a late attack. The race exploded up the final ascent of Saltburn Bank, with Tiff putting in a valiant effort to secure 5th place. Close behind were Robyn and Morven, finishing 7th and 8th respectively. Tammy finished 14th and Frankie 20th, showing our strength in depth with 5 riders inside the top 20.

The collective team performance has resulted in a significant rise in the team standings to second, with Morven moving up to third in the individual classification. Our sights are now set on the upcoming Lincoln Grand Prix in May, with one more step up in the team classification within touching distance.
